Background
My story
Africa Is Not Just a Destination I Sell – It Is a Place I Know My name is Petros Guwa, founder of Expert Safari Services, and my journey in African tourism has been built through years of working, guiding, travelling and living within some of Southern Africa’s most remarkable wilderness areas. When you book an African journey with me, you are not simply dealing with someone sitting behind a computer choosing hotels from a list. You are working with a travel advisor and professional safari guide who understands Africa from the ground. I have spent much of my career in the safari industry, including qualifying and working as a professional guide and gaining extensive experience in Zambia and Zimbabwe. My experience includes guiding in two of Zambia's most celebrated safari destinations – South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi – places where understanding the bush, wildlife and rhythm of Africa is essential. Over the years, my career has taken me beyond guiding and into safari operations, lodge management, guest services and travel planning. This has given me a valuable perspective: I understand both what happens behind the scenes to make a safari work and what the traveller expects when they arrive. Today, through Expert Safari Services, I use that experience to create journeys designed around the individual traveller.
Philosophy
My approach
One of the first questions I like to ask a new client is simple: What would you really like to experience in Africa? For some people, it is seeing their first elephant walking freely through the African bush. For others, it is watching the sun disappear over the Zambezi River, standing in front of the magnificent Victoria Falls, tracking wildlife on foot with an experienced guide, photographing a leopard in South Luangwa or simply sitting beside a campfire beneath an African night sky. There is no single perfect African safari. There is only the safari that is right for you. That is why I prefer to understand my clients before recommending an itinerary. I want to know what interests you, how you like to travel, how much time you have available and, importantly, what budget you are comfortable spending. Africa can offer extraordinary experiences across many different budgets. A memorable safari does not always have to mean staying in the most expensive luxury lodge. Sometimes a comfortable lodge, a reliable 4x4, a knowledgeable guide and a well-designed route can create an adventure that you remember for the rest of your life.
