Having travelled extensively across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Sri Lanka remained one of the destinations that exceeded expectations.
Many families think of Sri Lanka simply as a beach destination. In reality, it offers one of the most complete family travel experiences available anywhere in Asia.

Days 1–2: Colombo
Most visitors treat Colombo as a transit city.
We recommend spending at least two days.
This allows the family to recover from the flight and experience modern Sri Lanka.

Days 3–4: Kandy
The drive from Colombo into the hill country marks the beginning of a completely different experience.
Kandy feels cooler, greener and more relaxed.

Even teenagers who normally dislike museums often find this experience fascinating because of the history and ceremony involved.
Royal Botanical Gardens
An excellent family activity.
The giant trees, orchid collections and walking trails provide a relaxed half-day experience.
Cultural Performances
Traditional Kandyan dance performances remain one of the best ways to introduce younger travellers to local culture.
Days 5–6: Tea Country and Nuwara Eliya
This was arguably the highlight of our trip.
The Train Journey
The train between Kandy and Ella is frequently ranked among the most scenic railway journeys in the world.

Elephants
Unlike zoos, seeing elephants in their natural environment creates a completely different appreciation for wildlife.

Days 9–10: Galle
Galle provided the perfect ending.
